Angie and Brad Hand Over $1 Million in Aid to Refugees
Say what you will about these two, they sure aren't stingy when it comes to handing out funds for humanitarian causes. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt recently continued to put their money were their mouths are (OK, totally just botched that whole metaphor, but it is Friday) by donating $1 million toward aiding the refugees in Darfur in Sudan. The three organizations to receive the money from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation are the International Rescue Committee, the International NGO, SOS Children's Villages and the UN Refugee Agency. Michel Gabaudian, Regional Representative of the UNHCR for the U.S. and the Caribbean, expressed his appreciation on the behalf of his organization for the couple's philanthropic efforts.
"This generous donation comes just months after Angelina Jolie made a personal visit to a refugee camp in Chad and it shows, once again, her and Brad Pitts' commitment to helping refugees and the displaced. As Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Jolie's continued support of UNHCR and those we seek to help is a powerful force in ensuring they are not forgotten," Us Weekly quoted him, as saying. I gots to say, it's nice to be writing about celebrities who aren't in the midst of some kind of DUI situation or a crazy, embittered divorce. Although, don't get me wrong, I still love writing about DUI situations and crazy, embittered divorces--I just appreciate a little good news here and there. But not too much. Don't everyone start thinking they should behave!
