Pitt and Clooney To Throw Party For New Darfur Org
You could do worse than attend a party hosted by Brad Pitt and George Clooney. The stars of the upcoming Ocean’s 13 are planning on throwing a Cannes Film Festival bash to benefit a new charity called “Not On Our Watch”.
Joining Pitt and Clooney will be actors Don Cheadle and Matt Damon. The plethora of stars are making the unusual move of using the attention focused on Cannes to bring to light the atrocities in Darfur. After the festval, Oceans’s producer Jerry Weintraub is planning benefits for the film’s US premieres in Las Vegas and Chicago next month.
All the above are heavily involved in supporting action to stop the genocide in Darfur. As we’ve written before, Clooney has a new documentary called Sand And Sorrow that will be closing the 2007 Monaco Film Festival. Don Cheadle’s new book, “Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond“, has also been receiving praise. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie recently donated $1 Million to relief groups in the Sudan, and Matt Damon has lent his support; most recently in the Day For Darfur campaign.
Interested in attending? If you’ve got a cool $25,000, it’s no problem. Producer Weintraub recently spoke to the LA Times saying,
“‘We have gotten money beyond our wildest expectations in just 5 ½ weeks,’ says Weintraub. ‘The support has been terrific. It’s become the hottest ticket in Cannes.’ But only 150-200 people will be lucky enough to get inside the closed-to-press Darfur fundraiser. There may be a small press line, according to the studio PR department. And Weintraub has already sold the inside-event photo rights to a big glossy magazine.”
