Los Angeles, April 24 (IANS) Although David Beckham will fly in to join Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team next month, it has been announced that the company has already raked in more than 6.5 million pounds from the sales of the club's shirts and season tickets. The money is enough to cover the midfielder's salary for at least the next two years. 'We have already made our money back,' Tim Leiweke of Anschultz Entertainment, the company that owns the Galaxy soccer team, was quoted as saying. Beckham is expected to move to Los Angeles with his wife Victoria and their three sons in the coming months. Meanwhile, Beckham's status as a top-drawer soccer player has helped to sell an additional 7,000 season tickets that go for an average of 350 pounds each, which has brought in 2.4 million pounds, reports www.hollywood.tv. According to Galaxy spokesperson Tom Payne, the soccer club anticipated ticket sales to double this season to about 5 million pounds. 'He has clearly had an impact on our business,' said Payne. Earlier this month, Herbalife, the seller of nutritional and weight-loss supplements, signed a five year 10 million pounds contract to have its brand name blazoned across the front of the Galaxy's replica shirts. A former winger with Manchester United, Beckham is being paid a record-breaking Major League Soccer salary of 2.75 million pounds a year in addition to a percentage of the profit from merchandising. It is estimated that he will make as much as 124 million pounds if he plays out his five-year contract.
